“The last thing we would have expected from UK tape label The Tapeworm, who pretty much traffic in the unexpected, was a hip hop record, but if they were gonna release a hip hop record, it makes sense that it would be weirdo UK MC Infinite Livez, whose Bush Meat full-length we reviewed way back in 2004, and flipped over, describing him as “equal parts Ol' Dirty Bastard, De La Soul, Outkast and Ali G.” And if anything this live set is even weirder. A super spacey abstract set of dubbed out, free-from electro hop, all woozy synth stabs, footwork like beats, warped loops, and more singing than rapping, Infinite’s vocals a soulful croon, drenched in reverb, and all tangled up with dubby shimmer and stuttery melodies, eventually, the rapping comes in, and it’s appropriately jagged and twisted and rapidfire, with the music switching gears and following along, the various beats and loops splintering into a head spinning barrage of jumbled collaged chaos before slipping right back into that twisted dubby soul, sounding more like something we might hear from Hype Williams, a fractured future funk, laced with some dubstep bass wobble, smooth synthy shimmer, relentless programmed beats, and some killer next level flow, but always returning to Infinite’s whatthefuck echo drenched soul dub hip-pop. Cool.”
